State Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said that the priority was to ensure the safety of people in the worst-affected areas.
Boats belonging to the state government as well as to the Fire and Rescue Department and the police will be mobilised to evacuate people and distribute basic needs, he said. Amirudin said the state government would also activate volunteer groups to facilitate the placement of evacuees at transit centres and distribute aid as well as help with cleaning-up when floodwaters recede.
“This is almost double the most rainfall of 280mm recorded before this,” said Amirudin, adding that the high tide in the affected areas had also hit 4.5m. He said the Meteorological Department was expecting heavy rainfall to continue in Sabak Bernam, Kuala Selangor, Hulu Selangor, Gombak, Petaling, Kuala Langat, Hulu Langat as well as Perak, Kelantan, Pahang, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya.
