NSTnation Sarawak Year 1 pupils to be taught Science, Maths in English

The new system – which costs the state government RM11 million – will be enforced at 1,026 primary schools across Sarawak.

The funds were spent on training for 2,853 teachers, the printing of books and the production of video-based teaching materials, Bernama reported. “We will be supervising for at least six months,” said Sarawak Education, Science and Technological Research Minister Datuk Seri Michael Manyin Jawong. However, he revealed that national schools will not be part of the programme, as around 220 Chinese primary schools in the state have opted out of teaching the two subjects in English.
