Sarawak Opposition politicians urge Putrajaya not to appeal against Kuching High Court’s order to implement Undi18

KUCHING, Sept 3 — Sarawak’s Opposition politicians today urged Putrajaya not to appeal against Kuching High Court’s decision to compel the federal government and the Election Commission to take steps to implement Undi18 by the end of this year, to enable Malaysians under 18 to vote in the next elections, instead of waiting until they turn 21.

“Their commitment, courage and diligence have set an example for us all that youths can take a forefront in fighting for what is right for our country. “That is why I urge the federal government to not delay the implementation anymore, not just in respect for the High Court decision, but also in respect to the spirit of Parliament where such constitutional amendments were passed in the House unanimously across political lines even in the midst of a highly partisan political climate,” he said

“I also urge the prime minister and the Attorney General not to appeal the decision to respect the wishes of our youth and instead focus all energy and resources to implement it as soon as possible,” Yii said.
