KUCHING: The Association of Churches in Sarawak (ACS) has called on a PAS lawmaker to retract his statements about the Bible in Parliament and issue an apology.

ACS chairman Archbishop Simon Poh said insensitive statements with strong allegations against another religion should not be allowed to stand without being rectified.

The Pasir Puteh MP had made the remarks during a debate on drink-driving in Parliament on Wednesday . He said ACS considered Nik Muhammad's claim to be a"direct insult" on the Bible, which Christians hold as sacred, and added that it is also inflammatory and disrespectful to people who seek to live in harmony in Sarawak and Malaysia.

Poh added that political leaders should set the example of civility and work for harmony for the common good, while issues should be addressed in a rational and civil manner.
