Saifuddin tells why there's no total lockdown now

Communications and multimedia minister Saifuddin Abdullah says the government needs to balance lives and livelihoods to avert an economic disaster.

PETALING JAYA: The government has defended its stand not to impose a total lockdown as carried out last year, saying it now has adequate resources to deal with Covid-19 infections. Communications and multimedia minister Saifuddin Abdullah said a total economic lockdown was needed from March to May last year even though cases numbered only about 100 to 200 a day.“At that time , we did not have enough personal protective equipment and ventilators and there were no vaccines,” he said at a virtual press conference today.But now, he said, the government was looking at balancing lives and livelihoods to avert an economic disaster.

Opposition leaders have questioned the reason for not imposing a total lockdown to battle Covid-19 infections after the health ministry reported a record high 9,020 cases at the end of May. The health minister had also reported an increase in workplace clusters. The present total lockdown since June 1 ends on June 28 with several non-essential economic sectors allowed to operate.

If we have enough of everything, why did our PiiiM recently said the ICU nationwide has reached 100% capacity? And why is the daily death toll still high then?

You must be joking! If we have enough vaccines, why is the nationwide vaccination program still progressing slow? Why can't the government ramp up the nationwide vaccination program immediately? What is holding you back?

Clueless as they come. Even if we have enough PPE, why have the cases risen sharply vs. MCO 1.0? Logic suggests you & your brethren cabinet members must be sleeping on the wheel in mismanaging and miscommunicating to the public. Otherwise, daily cases would be declining since 1.0

Yes we have more PPE’s, ventilators etc now but we also have more deaths now than MCO 1.0. Even 1 death is too way too many if it could have been prevented.

What about hospital capacity that had few times pushed beyond 100%!? You got brain or not?

Yeah!! Open back everything! Then the moment kes hit back 8k lockdown 4.0 again and forever till year 3030!

Fatuous remarks with broken communication I think! Then why vaccinations drive isn't fast enough? Communication breaking down I think!
