Saifuddin: Malay language can be used in discussing issues in Asean

Foreign Minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah speaks to reporters after the launch of the State of the World Population Report 2019 in Kuala Lumpur April 10, 2019. — Picture by Ahmad Zamzahuri

He said the member countries of the Language Council of Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia-Malaysia could be the driving force behind the effort. “So if Asean added another one, the Malay language, it is not impossible, so Mabbim member countries can mobilise the effort,” he said at a dinner function to celebrate the Mabbim delegation at the Wisma Putra tonight.

danieleskay Either Malaysia and Indonesia must have a shared country-neutral writing standard like Modern Standard Arabic...or this is just nationalist, populist nonsense.

Indeed it can! ASEAN population is dominated by majority Malay-language speakers. We are after all living in the Malay Archipelago. Only non-patriotic people, with allegience to their own mother-countries, claim otherwise.

Vietnamese Thais Cambodian Laotian Myanmar ok ?

Pls focus matters that concern our ctry & bring our economy bck to life & esp. the clean up of the mess u left behind. What's the point championing this when most cant even converse well in English. Come on!

Camne tu? Ko nye ag pon x tau cakap malayu/malaysia.... apa dah saifuddinabd chedet_cc

Saya nak minta sumbang utk repair rumah saya, ini keadaan rumah yg saya skrg, malu apa bossku..

saifuddinabd Some US ppl I met were impressed by your speeches. But, pls lah, focus on priorities. There is no language issue/problem at the ASEAN secretariat. If it ain't broke, don't try and fix it.

Blah blah

Dialects & emoji can pakai ah? saifuddinabd, what would pakatanharapan_ think of next..running out of ideas like its predecessors. Trying to imagine non Malay speaking countries Spore, Thai, Burma, Laos, Cambodia, Philippines reception to a preposterous proposal.

I have been over the past year listening to BM from the politicians. In comparison, BM is a complicated language... mouthful of tongue twisters. It reflects on the culture, you know... long windy ways to say somethings... v illogical and unhelpful.
