Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal announced the appointment after the cabinet meeting here on Wednesday .Hashim handed over his duties to Safar with Shafie witnessing it during the simple ceremony.
Safar, who is married to an educationist and has four children, is the former Sabah Land and Survey Department director and had been with the department for the last 37 years since joining in 1987. He holds a Bachelor of Land Surveying degree as well as a Master of Business Administration and a Masters in Science from Malaysian universities.
Safar has served in various capacities at the land office in different districts in the state during his career. "His experience as a long-serving civil servant is the reason the state government decided to appoint him as state secretary," he said.
