Sabah needs to increase production and reduce its heavy reliance on rice imports to ensure the State’s food security.

Agriculture and Food Industries Minister Datuk Seri Ronald Kiandee said Sabah’s rice self-sufficiency level is 22 per cent, a stark contrast to the national SSL which is 70 per cent. “Sabah’s is much higher because its rice production is not at a satisfactory level,” he said, after launching the “Street Attack” Malaysia Agriculture, Horticulture and Agrotourism 2022 programme at Gaya Street, Sunday.
