KOTA KINABALU: Sabah has tightened its Immigration restrictions following an increase in Covid-19 cases in the state.

State secretary Datuk Safar Untong said that state, federal civil servants and officials seeking to enter Sabah for essential services duties must provide a letter from their department heads every time they come for duty between now until March 31.

He also said workers from private sectors who need to enter Sabah to carry out their essential services duties must also provide letters from their department chiefs or employers for every task. "Non-Sabahans with permanent resident passes, including spouses or children, Sabahan residents with work passes, student passes, long-term social visit passes or any other form of relief orders can enter the state but are required to self-quarantine for 14 days," he said in a statement on Thursday .

Safar added that spouses who are not from Sabah must produce their marriage certificates as proof for entry. The previous order stated non-Sabahan residents are not allowed into the state via land, sea or air unless they have special approval from the state government.Article type: free
