State police commissioner Datuk Omar Mammah said in the case, the six, including children and adults, were heading to the southern Philippines when they were believed to have ran into the shooters.
He said the shooters, their identities or motives yet to be ascertained, killed the six undocumented people on board the small vessel. “It is learnt that some fishermen from Semporna had come across the bodies and having recognised some of them, took the bodies back for burial on Nov 7,” Omar said on Sunday .“We have opened up investigations under a sudden death report,” he said.
A few days ago, photos of the burial were circulated on social media, with much speculation on the deaths of the victims. Some claimed they were killed by pirates while on their way back to the Philippines to celebrate Maulidur Rasul.
