KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal will listen to both Tan Sri Simon Sipaun and Datuk Dr Johan Ariffin Samad sides first before making a statement on the Institute for Development Studies’ (IDS) CEO position.

This follows the issue surrounding the state government think-tank’s two top officials whose relationship was reported to be testy, namely its chairman Sipaun and Johan, the CEO who was reportedly let go from his position.

Sipaun previously clarified that Johan was not sacked, but that the IDS board decided not to confirm him as CEO at the end of his six-month probation period on May 31. Shafie, during his Raya open house at Rumah Yayasan Sabah yesterday , admitted that Johan had gone to meet him on Monday but he has not discuss with Sipaun, was also present at the Raya open house.“Yes, Johan had met me but I told him to let me discuss with Sipaun first,” he said, adding that it was not proper for him to say anything yet without listening to both parties.Asked if the meeting with Sipaun will be held next week, Shafie responded, ”Hopefully, as soon as possible, can’t delay that.

IDS is an independent state think tank that helps analyse public policy proposals and provide research feedback to the state government.According to IDS sources, Sipaun who is a former Sabah state secretary, was not being able to see eye-to-eye with Johan on several matters.
