KUCHING: Sarawak reported another new imported Covid-19 case on Wednesday (July 8), bringing the state's tally of confirmed infections to 573.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah said the latest case was a Sarawakian oil and gas engineer working in Saudi Arabia who returned to Sibu on July 4.

"When he arrived in Sibu the following day, he was immediately taken to a hotel to be quarantined. A swab was taken for a polymerase chain reaction test on July 6 and the result came back positive on July 7. He said this was the fifth case of Sarawakians returning from overseas in recent days whose RTK results at KLIA were negative but who subsequently tested positive from PCR tests after arriving in the state.
