: Russian fencers will not take part in an Olympic qualifier event after host Poland said they would have to voice opposition to Russia's campaign in Ukraine, the head of Russia's fencing federation said on Sunday.

The athletes would also have to state that they “are not associated with the regime of Vladimir Putin” and “are not employed by Russian or Belarusian military or national security bodies”. The International Fencing Federation last month ruled that Russian and Belarusian athletes could return to international competition, making fencing the first Olympic sport to re-open its events to them.

“No official representatives of the Russian and Belarusian state or government will be invited,“ it said.
