Bank Muamalat Malaysia Bhd chief economist Mohd Afzanizam Abdul Rashid said major currencies such as the Japanese Yen, euro, British pound and Swiss franc depreciated against the US dollar with the Federal Reserve in no hurry to cut the benchmark interest rate which currently stood at 5.50 per cent. “All in all, the NFP data underscore the bullish sentiment in the US dollar against other major currencies.
It appreciated against the euro to 5.1434/1477 from 5.1437/1470 at Friday’s close, strengthened vis-a-vis the Japanese yen at 3.1278/1306 from 3.1341/1363, but was easier versus the British pound to 5.9980/0030 from 5.9956/9994 previously.
