According to the Labuan Marine Department, more than 18,000 people and 4,000 vehicles left the island for Sabah via the roll on, roll off ferry terminal from April 25 to May 2 following the celebrations.
Chairman of the ferry operator, Labuan Mainland Link Sdn Bhd, Datuk Chin Hon Vui, said the crowd was anticipated and manageable. “We must be grateful to the authorities and frontliners who have managed to control the spread so people could celebrate Hari Raya in their villages.“With additional trips, the ferry crew and staff at the Labuan and Menumbok terminals have to work around-the-clock,” he told Bernama yesterday.
Meanwhile, Labuan Marine Department director Alimuddin Amirudin said it had approved 12 trips daily for the two ferry operators plying the Labuan-Menumbok-Labuan route, as well as two return trips between Labuan and Muara, Brunei.
