Residents urge council to remove abandoned vehicles

“We can hear the rats making loud noises at night when they come out to look for food at a dumpster nearby and around the block as some of the residents leave leftover food for stray cats.

“Some rats have entered my house on the second floor,” she said, adding that she had set traps and caught more than 20 rats over the years.Student Lu Huu Dat, 14, and his family have grown used to seeing the abandoned vehicles next to the parking lot in front of their unit.“We often see rats scurrying in and out of the vehicle as if it was their playground, and we have become used to it,” he said.

Clerk Norlela Taib, 46, who has been living in the flats for about 20 years, said the abandoned vehicles were an eyesore that she passed by daily on her way to work.“I hope the authorities can help to remove the vehicles as soon as possible and clean up the surroundings,” she said. Johor Baru City Council Pelangi/Taman Sentosa zone councillor Ang Boon Heng said he had directed the matter to the relevant unit and that action would be taken soon. — By YEE XIANG YUN
