The Johor unity, domestic trade and consumer affairs committee chairman’s special officer Jason Tan Nam Cha said upgrading and maintenance works carried out by contractors hired by local councils or utility companies like Ranhill SAJ Sdn Bhd and Tenaga Nasional Bhd were usually free of charge.
He said residents in Taman Pulai Utama, Skudai, had complained that workers from a third party contractor had asked them to pay between RM50 and RM100 recently. “They apparently asked for payment to repair the road in front of their houses after conducting pipe maintenance works in the area.Tan said he alerted SAJ about the matter and requested that they look into it immediately.“I urge residents to refrain from giving money to anyone who claims to be a representative of contractors or utility companies,” he said. —
