It’s the season yet again. Some might call it Musim Pangkah!
We have just come out of the most difficult global pandemic ever, where many of us lost loved ones, and many suffered physically, psychologically and economically from the fallout of the COVID-19 pandemic. We must have a say as Christians. Pope Francis said in Evangelii Gaudium, “A good Catholic meddles in politics, offering the best of so that others can govern.” He went on to say, “Politics, according to the Social Doctrine of the Church, is one of the highest forms of charity, because it serves the common good.” Voting is a concrete way for us to ensure justice and charity prevail in our nation and our Catholic tradition re-enforces it as a moral obligation.
The most powerful reminder that our vote matters is the Judiciary and the Prosecution doing an amazing job to jail and convict serious corruption at the highest level of political office. This is unprecedented. There were also new movements by peoples like the #BenderaPutih movement; The #HartalDoktorKontrak movement and the #Lawan protest by many Malaysians.
