putrajaya “Kami berterima kasih kepada kerajaan China kerana memahami kedudukan kewangan Malaysia dan bersetuju untuk berunding.' - Perdana Menteri, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Perdana Menteri berkata, susulan keputusan kerajaan menyambung semula projek berkenaan, beliau berharap kerajaan ketiga-tiga negeri di pantai timur itu memanfaatkan peluang pembangunan dan pertumbuhan akan dihasilkan daripada pembinaan ECRL.

“Kerajaan PH ingin menekankan bahawa bantahan terhadap ECRL adalah mengenai kos tinggi mengikut perjanjian asal ditandatangani pentadbiran Barisan Nasional dan bukan terhadap ECRL. Perdana Menteri berkata, sebab utama kerajaan membantah projek ECRL yang asal adalah berdasarkan kontrak asal dirunding dan ditandatangani pada 2016.

“Kerajaan berhadapan pilihan sama ada merunding semula atau membayar kos penamatan kontrak kira-kira RM21.78 bilion, tanpa ada apa-apa hasil.
