RapidKL operator Rapid Rail has announced that debit and credit cards can now be used at its stations to buy tickets, as well as subscribe or top-up My50 and

MyCity travel passes. It added that the new payment methods are also available at RapidKL concession card registration counters at the Pasar Seni Hub and Conlay MRT station in Kuala Lumpur.

In a statement, Rapid Rail said that the new payment modes will upgrade the efficiency of ticket purchases. It added that this approach allows for a safer and more seamless transaction, therefore RapidKL users need not worry about carrying cash at all times. It should be noted that this new addition does not include the ability for users to use debit or credit cards to pass through turnstile gates at LRT, MRT and monorail stations.

Meanwhile, Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad announced that it has added support for debit and credit cards at Automatic Control Gates in its stations back in November last year. However, the introduction was met with lukewarm response from the public, as it comes with a RM30 pre-authorisation hold.
