Rajapaksa menaiki penerbangan Singapore Airlines dan mendarat di Lapangan Terbang Antarabangsa Bandranaike, Colombo.Kepulangan Rajapaksa di negara ini merupakan isu sangat sensitif bagi kerajaan baharu kerana mereka tidak mahu lebih banyak protes berlaku serta memastikan keselamatan dirinya. Aktivis, Rajeev Kanth berkata, dia akan cuba menghalang sebarang percubaan yang mahu Rajapaksa menyertai kembali politik atau kerajaan.
