QuickCheck: Is the likelihood of ghosting linked to one’s personal attachment style?

Now dealing with this phenomenon can be incredibly difficult — especially because you usually don’t know the cause or how to react. Being on the receiving end of ghosting is not just challenging for your own mental health but just downright annoying.

Though motivations to ghosting can be a mystery, and people are capable of making rash decisions even if from a background that would not lead one to be predisposed to ghosting,According to experts and research, the few aspects identified around the reasons people might ghost others are rooted in their attachment style.

It is believed that attachment styles — called attachment theory — affect how your interpersonal relationships evolve within adulthood. Two attachment styles most likely to engage in ghosting are the anxiously attached and avoidant attached. People who are attachment avoidant tend to ghost more frequently than get ghosted. According to study, they frequently use"indirect" methods of ending a relationship which includes avoiding, withdrawing, or ceasing communication. Those who are anxious and avoidant on the other hand, tend to feel insecure about their relationships. Combine one of those attachment styles with the desire to end a relationship and you have the perfect storm for ghosting.

Ghosting is even more hurtful to people who have low self-esteem in the first place. In fact what we don’t want is for people to think that ghosting is fine. People say love is a battlefield but quite frankly, in this day and age, it's dating that brings out all our guns and ammo.
