A woman who filmed herself arguing with the police after she verbally abused a hospital staff member was sentenced to five weeks and five days’ jail and fined S$600 on Wednesday.

RECENTLY, a photo went viral online of prepared frog meat being placed next to fish in a supermarket along with the claim that this happened in Selayang, Selangor.In the photo, plates of prepared frog meat can be seen displayed between plates of fresh fish and mussels.

The photographer, who came across the display at a prominent super market in Selayang, said they had already spoken to the establishment's management about it and that they had also made a report with the Domestic Trade and Costs of Living Ministry. "Like pork, other non-halal foods such as frogs and others must be separated from halal foods," said Associate Prof Datuk Dr Mohd Izhar Ariff Mohd Kashim when asked by Sinar Harian.

The deputy dean of Industry and Community Networks at the Faculty of Islamic Studies, National University of Malaysia , said that as it was forbidden for frog meat to be eaten by Muslims, adding that it is irresponsible of the supermarket to mix the meat with halal food. "The Shafie School as explained by Imam Nawawi in the Book of Majmuk that Muslims cannot eat frogs. Because Malaysia adheres to the Shafie sect, Muslims in Malaysia believe that frog meat is forbidden to eat,” he said.
