According to Kajang OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Zaid Hassan, while the man did try to escape in the incident at about 11am on Tuesday in front of the Beranang Health Clinic, he only managed to run for 50m before policemen caught up with him.
"Police personnel had escorted 19 detainees in a police lorry from Kajang police station to the clinic for swab tests. "After the screenings, all detainees were brought back to the lorry but one of them attempted to escape," he said in a statement on Wednesday . He added that the detainee was initially arrested in connection with a theft case and was remanded until Thursday .
