Prosecution appeals against acquittal of 17 in temple riot case FMTNews FMTEng

The 17 men had been charged with rioting at the Seafield Sri Maha Mariamman Temple in Subang Jaya in 2018.

Lawyer Azlan Abdul Roni said a check with a deputy public prosecutor revealed that the notice of appeal was filed last week.Azlan, who represented Irwan Noordin, said magistrate Iskandar Zainol would have to prepare his written grounds for acquitting the 17 without their defence being called.He said there was no positive recognition of the accused persons, including by way of dock identification.

Apart from Irwan, others freed were Saifullah Abdullah, Riduan Sekh Ruslan, Khairi Abdul Rashid, Rozaihan Zakaria, Qayyum Faisal, Ashraf Faizal, Absal Eastrie Abdullah, Jalil Talib, Khairol Anuar Zabidi, Zamri Said, Shukri Razali, Nor Azmi Abdul Ghani, Shahril Danniel Sajeel, Hasneezam Shah Samsudin, Akmal Izzat Azi and Norul Ismawi Islahuddin.
