The highway concessionaire said SUKE had begun the first phase of removing the gantry crane structure and repairs at the construction site on Saturday after receiving approval from the Occupational Safety and Health Department .
“The work consists of two phases. First, the stabilisation of the beam structure of the highway, where the progress to date is about 60%," Prolintas said in a statement on Sunday . “Upon completion of the structural stabilisation works, the gantry crane relocation works will immediately commence.Prolintas noted that the process of removal and repairs was complicated owing to several aspects such as technical processes, working methods, weather, the safety of construction workers and nearby residents, as well as current structural conditions.
To complete the removal works, Prolintas said SUKE will work with professional consulting engineers as well as the authorities such as the Malaysian Highway Authority , DOSH and the Construction Industry Development Board.On March 22, a gantry crane collapsed at the SUKE construction site near Puncak Banyan, Persiaran Alam Damai in Cheras, claiming the lives of three construction workers and severely injuring a road user.
