KUALA LUMPUR: The nation’s poverty line index (PLI) should not be politicised, as it should accurately reflect the present socio-economic reality, says Klang MP Charles Santiago.

KUALA LUMPUR: The nation’s poverty line index should not be politicised, as it should accurately reflect the present socio-economic reality, says Klang MP Charles Santiago .

He said as of July this year, about 826,100 people had been left unemployed and about four million Malaysians opted for the RM500 monthly withdrawal from the Employees Provident Fund as part of the government’s Covid-19 relief programme. “This is because non-food expenditure constitutes slightly less than 52% of the total PLI. This is a significant contrast to EPF’s 'belanjawanku' share of non-food expenditure of about 77%.”
