Just days after a former state executive councillor was named as the new state Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia chairman, “cracks” have started to appear in the party.
It is learnt that 21 out of 26 division chiefs attended a special meeting at the Bersatu headquarters here to pledge their support to the newly minted Mentri Besar Datuk Dr Sahruddin Jamal. Going by convention, he should be the state chief but instead, Tebrau division chief Mazlan Bujang got the appointment letter on April 29.Mazlan was among those who was absent at yesterday’s meeting.
It is believed that the leaders from Kota Tinggi, Mersing, Simpang Renggam and Pulai were a no-show, too.Also present was Osman, who is the Ayer Hitam division chief. It is learnt the women’s wing was also keen to have Dr Sahruddin as the Johor Bersatu chief. Sources said that the Bersatu leaders hoped to get signatures and submit a memorandum to Bersatu chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, asking him to reconsider his decision to appoint Mazlan.When contacted, Osman downplayed the meeting, saying it was merely a coffee shop discussion among division leaders.“If they do not want to accept the new chairman, then let the Mentri Besar hold the position,” he said.
