Police permit ruling not introduced midway through campaign period, says EC

EC chairman Azhar Azizan Harun says the commission agrees with the A-G in that there is no clear provision for the police permit for door-to-door campaigning under Section 24 of the Election Offences Act 1954. – The Malaysian Insight file pic, November 15, 2019.

THE directive on police permits for mobile campaigns was made known to those concerned after the closing of nominations for the Tg Piai parliamentary by-election on November 2 and not introduced midway through the campaign period, the Election Commission said. EC chairman Azhar Azizan Harun said today representatives of the candidates did not raise any objection when told of the ruling.
