Palace’s Wilfried Zaha takes a knee to protest racism before the match against Villa yesterday.

West Midlands Police said after Villa’s 2-0 win that they had arrested a boy from Solihull in relation to the incident. Villa condemned the abuse and vowed to issue a lifetime ban, tweeting: “We deplore the disgusting racist messages sent to @wilfriedzaha. The shirts of all 20 sides in the English top flight have also carried a logo promoting the Black Lives Matter campaign.

“I think it is right that Wilf made people aware of it; I don’t think it is something he should keep quiet about.
