Zamri allegedly uploaded two offensive comments on his Facebook account under the name of ‘Zamri Bin Abd Razak’ with the intent to offend others. — Reuters picPUTRAJAYA, April 2 — The Sessions Court here today fined a photographer of a production company RM15,000 for two counts of insulting Hinduism on his Facebook account two years ago.
“The crime of insulting one’s religion is committed not only against the person but also against the values and functions that the religion and its followers represent. Religion is something personal and dear to the one professing it. The man, who was fined RM8,000 in default six months’ jail for the first count and RM7,000 in default six months’ jail for the second charge, paid the fine.
