The coordinating minister for the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme said the Sinovac and AstraZeneca vaccines were not recommended for expectant and nursing mothers for the moment, and those with any doubts should consult doctors.
“Based on advice from the Health Ministry, Pfizer is suitable to be used by expectant mothers who are between 14 and 33 weeks into their pregnancy. “For lactating mothers, it is suitable for them to be given Pfizer, too, ” he said in a virtual press conference with Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba on Monday .
Khairy said the current clinical guidelines were that both Sinovac and AstraZeneca are not advised for pregnant women for the time being.“This is the guideline for now. Whoever is in doubt should consult their respective doctors, ” he said. Khairy also noted that he has directed the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force to coordinate with hospitals and specialists so that women who are between 14 and 33 weeks pregnant can be prioritised for the Pfizer vaccine.
