Setiausaha Agung Umno Ahmad Maslan berkata, penangguhan itu turut melibatkan mesyuarat perwakilan Umno bahagian di seluruh negara.“Tarikh Perhimpunan agung Umno 2019 ialah pada 6 dan 7 Dis 2019, maka 18 bulan selepas itu ialah selewatnya 5 Jun 2021. Beliau berkata, jawatankuasa pengurusan Umno bersetuju sebulat suara mengenai keputusan itu dan mendapat persetujuan secara majoriti ahli majlis kerja tertinggi Umno melalui “circular resolution” atau resolusi secara edaran.
Beliau berujuk Fasal 8.2 Perlembagaan Umno, “Perhimpunan agung tahunan hendaklah diadakan sekali dalam setahun pada bila-bila masa yang ditetapkan oleh majlis tertinggi dengan syarat tidak lewat 18 bulan dari tarikh perhimpunan agung lalu”.
