IPOH: Due to the Covid-19 surge in China, all tourists arriving at the Sultan Azlan Shah Airport and the border town of Pengkalan Hulu may have to undergo health screening, says the state government.

Perak health committee chairman A. Sivanesan said he would meet the state Health Department soon to decide on whether to make masking up mandatory and to also discuss the screening issue.“I was particularly impressed with a healthcare screening centre here, where all staff members and patients were masked up at all times.

“It is very important that both private and government departments emulate this to check the spread of Covid-19,” he said when contacted yesterday. It was reported yesterday that Melaka had decided to make masking up mandatory if cases there soared. The Melaka government said wearing face masks would be made mandatory by Jan 17 in the state if Covid-19 cases record an upward trend.

A check with the Health Ministry’s KKMnow portal showed there were 471 active Covid-19 cases in the state as at Wednesday.
