Langkah Kementerian Perdagangan dan Industri India menggantung 39 lesen import untuk produk sawit yang telah ditapis, diluntur dan dinyahbau dijangka tidak mempunyai kesan yang ketara terhadap import RBD Malaysia.

“Jika Nepal dan Bangladesh mengimport minyak sawit dari Malaysia untuk dieksport semula ke India di bawah SAFTA, barulah kita menerima kesan. “Ketelusan yang lebih besar dalam pengeluaran lesen import serta penguatkuasaan RoO akan menjadi isu utama,” kata Bhavna. Semua ini berubah menjelang 8 Jan, selepas produk minyak sawit RBD, termasuk RBDPOP dikeluarkan daripada kategori tersebut.

“Pada masa yang sama, berikutan status bebas cukai yang diberikan kepada import RBDPOP dari Nepal dan Bangladesh di bawah SAFTA serta kebanjiran produk tapisan masuk ke India dari negara-negara ini terus menjejaskan daya saing industri domestik,” katanya. “Terdapat khabar angin bahawa lesen itu bertanggungjawab ke atas kemasukan kira-kira 1.1 juta tan metrik RBDPOP,“ kata Bhavna.
