GEORGE TOWN: Police busted two separate drug distribution syndicates and seized RM510,820 worth of drugs during five raids here.

Penang police chief Comm Datuk T. Narenasagaran said the Penang Contingent Narcotics Crime Investigations Department and the Northeast District Narcotics Crime Investigations Department conducted the raids in Tanjung Tokong and Jelutong from May 18 until 21.

Among the substances seized were six packs of unknown narcotic packed under the guise of traditional Chinese tea packaging. They are now being tested to determine their exact nature. He said police also seized 5.1kg of syabu, 8,400 Eramin 5 pills, 444 Ecstacy pills and 50.75g believed to be ketamin. “The total value of the drugs seized is RM510,820. We also seized five cars, jewellery and cash valued at RM177,205,” he told a press conference at the state police headquarters here on Thursday .

He said police arrested a suspect during the first operation at 8.30am on May 18 and arrested six more suspects from 1pm to 2.30am between May 19 and May 21 during the second operation.Comm Narenasagaran said all seven suspects were remanded under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code and for police investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952 for drug trafficking.
