GEORGE TOWN: Penang MCA chairman Datuk Tan Teik Cheng urged assemblymen and MPs in Penang to state its stand on whether the teaching of Khat or Jawi calligraphy will be a part of the Bahasa Melayu curriculum for Year Four pupils in Chinese primary schools.

“The leaders should not be quiet, but voice out for Chinese primary schools, ” he added.

Meanwhile, Tanjung MCA division chairman Loke Poh Chye said Chinese schools in Malaysia are famous throughout the world, and it is one of the few countries in South-East Asia who practice a full Chinese education system in schools. “It had been a year since the change of federal government, but what we see now are “weird” policies.

“There is a lack of direction in the education system and leaders should not use our younger generation as an experiment.“They should instead bring technology-related subjects into the education system, ” he said at a special meeting at Gold Coast restaurant in George Town, Penang. To read the full story and other premium content
