PETALING JAYA: Newly crowned Commonwealth Games women’s doubles champions Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah were the big winners as the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) rolled out their incentives totalling RM245,000 for the national shuttlers yesterday.

Pearly-Thinaah, who maintained Malaysia’s grip in the women’s doubles by winning the event for the country for the fifth time in the last six editions of the Games, shared a total of RM50,000.

Ng Tze Yong’s silver medal effort in Birmingham fetched him RM10,000 although the player had to skip the function at the Akademi Badminton Malaysia as he was not well. SEA Games mixed doubles winners Chen Tang Jie-Peck Yen Wei also received a windfall as they received RM30,000 for ending Malaysia’s 23-year-wait for gold in the event in Hanoi in May.

“In Birmingham, I’m pleased to see the national team, comprising a healthy mix of experience and youth, manage to reclaim the mixed team gold.
