Brickfields deputy OCPD Supt Basri Sagoni said the incident occurred at around 8.20pm on Wednesday."The complainant, who works as a security guard at the location, witnessed the incident," he said in a statement on Thursday .He said investigations found that a man believed to be mentally unstable allegedly attacked the victim with a parang."The 32-year-old victim is believed to be a foreigner.
Supt Basri said police went to the area where the suspect was last seen at around 10pm on the same day and arrested a 31-year-old man, also a foreigner."A urine test came back negative for drugs," he said.According to Supt Basri, the motive for the attack has yet to be established as the victim and suspect were not cooperating and had refused to talk.
He said the case was being investigated as voluntarily causing hurt with a weapon and not having valid documents. Anyone with information on the case should contact the Brickfields police hotline at 03-2297 9222 or the City police hotline at 03-2115 9999.
