KOTA KINABALU: Last week's heavy rain brought relief to the drought-hit Papar district, but it proved to be short-lived after a water treatment plant was forced to suspend operations again.) said the state Water Department was forced to shut down the Limbahau plant on Thursday owing to high salinity level s in the water.

Shahelmey said the measures were necessary as water flow from Papar river catchments reduced significantly in the days following the rains, allowing seawater to move upstream towards the Limbahau plant again. The maximum salinity level for treatable water is 120mg per litre , but it hit 6,000MGL with the sea water intrusion.

Three Water Treatment Plants in Papar District Produce 58 Million Liters of Treated Water DailyThree water treatment plants in the Papar district have been able to produce 58 million liters of treated water per day since last night, according to Papar Member of Parliament Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali. The Kogopon and Jetama water treatment plants are now operating at their full capacities of 40 million liters per day and 13 million liters per day, respectively, while the Limbahau Emergency Water Supply Scheme (EWSS) plant is operating at half capacity, which is 5 million liters per day. There is a slight issue with the turbidity level of the water source due to flooding in the upstream area and the high turbidity of the water flowing into the rivers, which serve as raw water sources for the treatment plants. However, the production of treated water at the three plants is running smoothly.
