PETALING JAYA: Mixed doubles shuttler Hoo Pang Ron has turned to cooking pots for weight training at home – and it has been working out just fine.

The 22-year-old Pang Ron suffered a spinal fracture during training at Academy Badminton Malaysia after the Chinese New Year break and had been undergoing rehabilitation at the National Sports Institute since January.

Pang Ron is ranked fourth in the country with Cheah Yee See in the mixed doubles department. The other three pairs ahead of them are Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying , Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai Jemie and Tan Kian Meng-Lai Pei Jing .“I’m currently at the tail end of my three-month recovery period. I’m much better but I’ve been instructed to do weight and physical training, ” said Pang Ron, currently ranked 35th in the world with Yee See.

“Yee See and I got to play in tournaments before my injury but we lost in the first rounds of the Malaysian and Thailand Masters. Hopefully, when we get back, we will be able to achieve better results, ” he said.
