PEKAN: The Opposition did not field a candidate in the Chini by-election because it knows it cannot win, says Umno deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan.

He said Covid-19 was just a convenient excuse for not contesting after the Opposition clearly saw that it could not wrest Chini from Barisan Nasional.

Although Tengku Zainul recently received an endorsement from Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, the former Pekan Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia deputy chief said he had never met the former prime minister.Pahang PKR had also denied that Shukri was the party’s proxy, saying the blogger had even contested as an Independent against PKR in the 13th General Election in the Semambu state seat.
