KOTA KINABALU: Some 503,000 or 12.9% of the total population in Sabah have been accounted for in the ongoing census process as of Monday (March 8), according to the state Malaysian Statistics Department.

Sabah Statistics director Zainol Jamil said this is based on the estimated state population of 3.91 million people in 2020, which included over one million non-Malaysian citizens.

“The Kota Kinabalu district has the highest number of those who completed their census, with 100,862 individuals representing 18% of the population in the district, followed by Tawau with 16.5% and Sandakan with 14.3% , ” he added. “Therefore, there has been some rescheduling and any face-to-face census will be targeted ones according to districts.
