Segamat Fire and Rescue Department operation commander Syed Putra Syed Mohd Al-Atas said the department received a distress call at 4.22pm on Friday and deployed 16 firemen to the scene."The bodies of the two teenagers were found on the surface of the river at about 3m away from the river bank at 5.20pm," he said in a statement.
He added that the two victims, identified as Tey Shan Hui, 15, and Tan Kah Chun, 13, were declared dead at the scene by medical officers from the Segamat Hospital.When contacted, Segamat OCPD Supt Raub Selamat said that the case was classified as sudden death. "They were believed to have slipped into the river and drowned. There were no signs of foul play," he said.
