The Tokyo Games will be held on July 23-Aug 8 next year — almost exactly a year after the original dates of Aug 25-Sept 6.

OCM president Datuk Seri Norza Zakaria said Malaysia fully supports the move for the new dates as the world continues its fight against Covid-19. “Not only will the 12-month postponement allow all our resources to focus on fighting Covid-19 and keeping everyone safe, but it will also provide sufficient time for our athletes to reboot and return to their peak condition.”

“We will work with IOC and international federations to ensure that the Games will be a fair and equitable particularly in relation to the qualification process,” added Norza.
