PETALING JAYA: Former chief secretary to the government Tan Sri Dr Ismail Bakar painted a grim picture if people continued to defy the movement control order which aims to break the Covid-19 chain of transmission.

"If the problem persists until the end of the year, or even as early as August, 'work from home' can turn into 'no work, stay at home due to retrenchment'."The IMF has stated that 88 countries are facing financial crisis," Ismail said in a statement."If the issue is prolonged, it can lead to food and humanitarian crises. Many countries have stopped exporting their food," he said.

"In some countries, food crops were left unharvested for fear of Covid-19 transmission," Ismail noted.

Comment | Victimless MCO crimes: The case of 24 Catholic seminarians'When people who live together play together, do they spread disease?' Just my opinion, people should not defy MCO, but cases like this I wonder if they don’t need to be handcuffed in this manner, same goes to other harmless ones. The aggressive ones yes, they deserved it. This is the how it is going to be from now on with this government so get used to it. Any excuse to undermine the minority. Call a spade a spade. This is religious persecution.
