KUALA LUMPUR: Nurul Izzah Anwar's role as senior adviser to the Prime Minister on economics and finance has very limited power, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The Prime Minister said that his daughter's role would be very limited and she would not have any opportunities to enrich herself."She will not have the power to take on or directly manage any projects or tenders herself," he said.

Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, said Nurul Izzah had stated her eagerness to help and was appointed as senior adviser so she could work in an official capacity."If she came to help me without being given an official position, people would question her intentions even more severely than they do now," he said when speaking to the press after the National Sports Awards 2021 ceremony on Tuesday .

Anwar added that he would do everything in his power to improve Malaysia's Corruption Perception Index ranking which dipped from the 48th spot in 2021 to the 47th in 2022. "I will personally guarantee that there will be no acts of corruption, bribery or misuse of power during my term as Prime Minister.

"I also pledge my administration's willingness to fully cooperate with any investigations launched by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission ," he said.

Nepotism

If I were him, I would use the word “specific” to describe her scope of reference and parameters of her power, instead of “limited” power for such an important role.

Three moral violations ever since: 1) He denied taking both PM and FM position but end up taking FM position as PM 2) He denied all rumors of collab with ZH, in the end he became his TPM 3) He vehemently criticized nepotism but practiced it secretly for 27 days before kantoi...

Ok ok... everything is good

then what is her role?

He knows he'll get major flak for it but still did it. The only reason I can think of is that he doesn't really trust anyone else to peruse the contracts (apparently that's izzah's job). So better to be out with it than going in and out of the office without ppl knowing why.

Limited relative to PM.

Why is everyone avoiding the real issue of nepotism and trying to justify the appointment? It's so lame that it's infuriating.

I am an Economics grad with first class honors, decade plus of exp in environmental and social policy and strategy. But I'm not the PMX daughter so I'm unqualified vs Izzah, apparently.

PM: Nurul Izzah not on govt payrollAnwar said no salary or allowance was given to his daughter, who took on the role as his adviser on economics and finance. How does she make her living? If a personal advisor then sure, feel free to apoint whoever. But if under the government, then all criticism are valid regardless of whether she is getting paid or not because that is a job that could have gone to someone else more deserving and qualified. Clearly there is bias. Dear PM, maybe we trust you not to abuse your power today but what about the next PM that will come after you? This is a bad precedent and you know it. If the next election PN wins, don't you think they will do the same thing as you with 'qualification' and 'no salary' excuses?
