LETTER |  Let us discard old thinking and instead embrace innovative ideas.

I write in response to the reignition of the issue of how nuclear power is superior to conventional power plants which depend on burning of fossil fuels, especially, again, in our current climate of rising oil prices.

Coming back to building of a new nuclear reactor, scientists who are proponents of nuclear energy may sing praises of how the few kilograms of uranium-235 generates a huge amount of energy which a Form 5 Physics student is familiar using the "E=mc" formula and using the Avogadro's Constant to connect with the actual number of particles involved in a nuclear reaction.

Then there is also the inevitable thermal pollution. You see, all nuclear reactors need to be cooled. Hence they are built near a large body of water, be it a river or a sea. It begs the question of where in Malaysia are you going to find a river big enough to provide such water? Then there is also the inevitable negative effect on the aquatic ecosystem of that river concerned.

N.O. = NO

Not on your life! With people like these around, you must be kidding.

While I don’t think Malaysia should fo nuclear becaise of domestic terrorist threats, I think that places lole Kelantan and Pekan (Najib’s hometown) should be turned into radioactive nuclear waste dumps for the world’s nuclear industry. The waste got to go somewhere.

Are you kidding? Nuclear power in a country where you’ve got the likes of Hadi from PAS and Zakir Naik of India fame roaming the streets? The World won’t stand for it, and neither should we. We don’t want to become pariahs lile Iran, so we?

We lack of brainy people here.

No

Yes...if other alternative options r way too costly socially n environmentally...(which i doubt it is d case)

No

Yes

NNNNNNNNNN.....OOOOOOOOOO. Can’t even maintain normal things.

Yes please. Set it up in Pekan.

NO to nuclear power in Malaysia . Let go green and save our energy . Disaster if nuclear power failure . We always cut corners due to corruption and lack of hand-on management .
