PETALING JAYA: Non-Covid-19 patients are being referred to university and private hospitals now that several government hospitals have been designated as Covid-19 treatment centres.

Health Ministry director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the ministry had been given approval by the government to buy services from and send non-Covid-19 patients to private hospitals.It is not the normal pricing that is given to the ministry. We have negotiated the cost so we are sending the non-Covid-19 patients to the private hospitals," he said during his daily press briefing on Thursday .

He noted that after government hospitals cancelled its elective cases, the entire medical team, ranging from the surgical department to the orthopaedic department, had moved to district hospitals.The ministry has designated 40 hospitals nationwide as Covid-19 hospitals.
