PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia will seek more information on whether or not any of its citizens were affected in the series of bomb blasts at the Thailand border town of Tak Bai, says Home Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin.

"We need to get more information on this,” he said at the Immigration Department Hari Raya open house here on Thursday .

Asked if security at the Malaysia-Thailand border would be tightened after the incident, he said it was already at a high level even before the bomb blasts. On a related note, Immigration director-general Datuk Seri Khairul Dzaimee Daud said counters at the border would remain open.ALSO READ:The town of Tak Bai, a border town on the Malaysia-Thailand border in the Narathiwat Province, experienced a series of bomb blasts on Wednesday . Gunfire was also heard in the area.

The blasts, which occurred at about 10pm, were even heard in Pengkalan Kubor in Tumpat, Kelantan, near Pekan Tak Bai. Several videos recorded by the public there have gone viral on social media, showing raging fires in addition to several men firing guns, according to Sinar Harian.
